Arndt Philipp Menzel

Mr. Arndt Philipp Menzel has studied Mechanical Engineering and holds a master diploma of the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany. Employed by Airbus Defence & Space, Mr. Menzel has worked in space business for more than 30 years. His professional assignments include product assurance and safety management for various spaceflight projects (among them the astronomy satellite Hipparcos, the European experimental platform Eureca, the German Spacelab mission D2, the Integrated (Space Shuttle) Unpressurized Cargo Carrier and the Automated Transfer Vehicle, ATV) and industrial lead functions for the
operation of the European infrastructure on the International Space Station (the "Columbus" laboratory, in particular). Mr. Menzel was Head of Quality & Process Management at former EADS Space Transportation (now Airbus Defence & Space) from 2000 to 2006. In this function he directed the development of the Astrium Quality and Environmental Management System in accordance with the international standards ISO9001, EN9100 and ISO14001 and obtained the company's initial certification to these standards. During that time he was also leading international working groups for the further development of the ECSS safety and dependability standards. Other appointments were as Head of Operations Integration and, currently, as Industrial Authority within the Operations & Missions unit of Airbus Defence & Space.

In addition, Mr. Menzel is supporting the European sounding rocket programs TEXUS and MAXUS. He serves as the Technical Director of the International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety (IAASS) since its foundation.
