Andy Quinn

Dr Andy Quinn has 30 years’ experience in the military and civil aerospace industry. He is the Managing Director of Saturn Safety Management Systems Limited based in the United Kingdom. His company specialises in providing System Safety Engineering and Management services to the aerospace industry and also the emerging suborbital and orbital spaceflight industries. His Master’s Thesis involved researching suborbital space safety which included monthly meetings with Virgin Galactic in their London Headquarters in 2005-2006. Andy then went on to complete his PhD – ‘Examining the Influence of Safety Management in the Personal Spaceflight Industry’ in 2011. Andy is currently working for Reaction Engines Ltd, UK, as interim Product Assurance Manager on the Synergistic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine development, also conducting systems safety analysis. He is also working on Spaceport Risk Assessments. Andy is Chair of the IAASS Commercial Human Spaceflight Safety Technical Committee (CHSS TC) which aims to address the emerging issues of the nascent commercial spaceflight industry by providing rationalized guidelines – the CHSS TC has produced a Suborbital Guidance Manual.
